Negative or Over-Played Drivers

Recognition, needing external Recognition from others.  Wanting Status, Influence, or Power.  Wanting to Lead, “box at the right level” or to have “Intellectual Belonging.”  Are you delegating your sense of Well-being to others?

Intimacy, Psychological and Emotional Intimacy – being able to be yourself with someone.  A loving relationship.  Are you attracted by the ideal of the relationship or the person?

Choice, Autonomy, Freedom to choose your own direction. Being in Control.   An issue in excess for perfectionists. And avoided in others delegating choice to others – Learned Helplessness.

Hygiene Factors.  Safety, Security & Privacy, Comfort/Lack of pain.  This is high in people with Self Pity.  They cannot be the ones to blame.   Same with risk aversion – if I don’t make a decision, I won’t get blamed.

Equitability, Fairness.   Want things to be Just, level, Predictable, Objectively fair, Rightful.  Are you seeking out injustice to be angry about?  Do you over-personalise and over-emphasise random events?

Strengths.  Want to play to your Strengths.  Enjoying Mastery and Flow, and drawing largely on one’s Expertise.  Creativity.  Does this create inflexibility?  Does it impact of opportunities to learn and grow?

Tribe, Team.  Wanting a sense of Belonging, Affiliation, Emotional/Social Belonging to a group or team.  In excess this can manifest as being a People Pleaser or Conflict Avoider.

Meaning, Purpose.  Pursuing and driven by an overarching meaning or purpose to life and to daily actions.  Is your purpose still positive?  Is it driving Machiavellian decisions?

Achievement.  A need for frequent feedback or signs of Progress.  Also, a need for Change and Variety or the New.  Learning in its own right.  Does this shift your priorities away from get the right things right, to focusing on the quick wins?

Pleasure.  Desire for immediate Pleasure or Fun.  Hedonism and living in the moment.  Being unguarded and free from social constraint.  Does this get in the way of striving and achieving and deeper (Eudaemonic) sense of well-being?
